  2. Im fairly new at this digitizing so this is probably a pretty basic question, but when i use satin stitches and there is a segment next to another one there is a gap between the two sections. im not sure how to get rid of the gaps. ive tried overlapping the segments but that doesn't always help. is there a trick in how to digitize the segments so they run together??? Help!!!

  4. One of my online manuals for the V5 software has a wonderful stitched drawing of man's face (attached) No idea why the image is in one (pc) version of the manual and not another (mac), but the text next to it talks about "designs resembling pencil or charcoal sketches" which can be quickly digitized. I dont think this image looks particularly like charcoal but the instructions tell you to "use the tools to create doodle type drawing effects" but there's no mention about what tools can create these charcoal or pencil sketches. Anyone have any ideas please? I realise its the freehand open line of course but is that all that's required? thanks!

  6. Hi there, I need help with recommendations for a digitizer who is expert at fonts. Not someone who will just chuck it through the software and indeed not the cheapest - rather someone who will take time and care to ensure the alphabets are best possible. I've had a few quotes so far, courtesy of googling, but they aren't interested in what fabric I'm using, what needle size and thread weight etc. I had a sample done by one who tried to send me the character done with satin stitch: The characters are 0.5" high and quite delicate so I would have though a running stitch would have been more appropriate (based on my limited amateur knowledge!) I did suggest this and had no response. I said I wished to use 60 weight thread and they said they digitize for a 40 weight. I am new to this and I want someone I can trust, who is going to look at density, the best stitch for the size and character type etc etc. Does anyone have any personal recommendations based on positive experiences, or is anyone reading this interested in quoting me? It's two different fonts, letters and numbers - 78 characters in total... It's for a product I sell, a gift item, currently hand embroidered and I wish to offer a machine embroidered alternative and therefore a faster alternative to my clients. But it has to be good quality! Thank you in advance.
  7. Hi everyone, This is my first time trying to learn about digitizing. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I would go about getting these designs digitized? I do not plan on buying digitizing software as I do not seem to find myself in need of it very often, but in this case I do. I am attempting to put together items for a fundraiser (for Orlando's Pulse nightclub survivors) and thought these would be perfect to embroider on some items. Any suggestions on low cost ways to do this would be greatly appreciated, the less I spend the more I can donate to the fund! Sincerely, April Lopez aalopez142@gmail.com
  8. Pathing or mapping out your embroidery design ? When a customer comes approaches you with a design or logo for you to digitize you first need to know the quality of the artwork, the clarity of the artwork will make your job easier to digitize it. I recommend that you get the file as artwork or as a clean bitmap file. See examples below HIGH QUALITY IMAGE POOR QUALITY IMAGE If I was digitizing these two images , I would charge the more for a poor quality image as I would need to clean it up or prep the art work either in Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator to prepare the artwork. Some people try to digitize these images but when you need to zoom in the file distorts so its hard to determine the details. Planning Compensations What material are you going to be sewing on, leather , cotton, What application are you using , hats, jackets, left chest etc Is there any special things to consider, applique, chenille etc What is the final size of the design Application considerations When digitizing a new embroidery design you want to remember that you want it to sew out smoothly and in a timely fashion, too many trims, colors or jumps will result in a design machine operators will dread. Plan for the design to be sew from the center out Plan to hide stitches to reduce the amount of trims Plan the layout to reduce the amount of jumps. Planning Stages Now you should be ready to plan your attack , selecting a recipe is a good base but knowing the material your sewing on is key, I like using some base underlay throughout the design as a good foundation. If the fabric is a stretch fabric I will use to layers one at a 90 degrees to the first , the I then will pick the first color, usually I pick the color with the most amount of components this way I can hide my run stitch with the following layers. Don't be afraid to use the run stitches, a run stitch can be used to keep the machine moving when digitizing a design so the head doesn't need to stop and trim or jump to the next segment in the design. The less amount of jumps, trims the more efficient your machine embroidery designs will sew out. Sew out directions First Color Second Color Third Color Fourth Color Fifth Color This design should sew out fast with only 3 trims throughout and only 5 color changes with no repeats is should be smooth , Now if I spent more time on the design I could clean it up and reduce the amount of jumps. Mind you will need to add some underlay and compensation but these steps can be applied to any design. Author: Frank Prokator
