Venice photo stitch free embroidery design

Thank you for this magnificent design. I see  the design is split first into colour and the second half is the Black or shadowing portion of the design. How do I start? Is the colour section done first and then load design with the Black/Shadowing section on the machine and start at the same point as the coloured section? Please can you clarify. Thank you.

You found special marks? Usually red cross.

It is pitty I can not split this design. I like it very much.
