Registration issues embroidery machine

Recommended Posts

ello
Im fairly new to embroidery only getting my machine in November, i've purchased Embird and have PE design Plus. I was recently asked to embroider a small logo on the front of a few Tshirts, and then was asked to do the logo larger on the back. The smaller logo is fine with no registration issues, however the larger one the gold outline of the logo is partly fine but either side there is a massive gap from where it should be.
Im using super strong cut away stabaliser. Here is a test stitch, but the logo has another 2 words and a image too
My machine is a brother NV800e
software Embird and PE design plus im using 160 x 260 mm hoop and the whole design is about 100 x 210 mm wide

Any suggestions on how to solve this is greatly appreciated :)

Hi Shawn, welcome to the embroidery world! You're doing great already, and it's totally normal to run into issues when working with larger designs. The problem you're describing — with the gold outline not aligning properly on the larger logo — sounds like a classic registration issue, usually caused by fabric shifting during stitching.

1. Fabric Stability: It's All About Hooping

  • Even with super strong cut-away stabilizer, if the fabric isn’t hooped tightly (like a drum), it can move slightly, especially in larger designs.
  • Try hooping the T-shirt and stabilizer together (not floating the shirt).
  • Use a temporary spray adhesive like 505 to bond the shirt to the stabilizer.
  • Secure excess fabric outside the hoop to prevent drag — pins or clips can help.

2. Design Pathing & Push-Pull Compensation

  • Larger designs often suffer from push-pull distortion, which can misalign outlines.
  • In Embird or PE Design Plus, check for pull compensation and make sure your stitch order places outlines last, after the fill stitching.

3. Try a Basting Stitch First

  • Many machines have an option to stitch a basting box around the design — this helps hold the fabric in place before actual stitching starts.

4. Slow Down the Machine

  • Reduce your machine speed while stitching larger designs. It helps minimize movement and misalignment.

5. Design Editing (If Necessary)

  • If the outline was digitized separately, it might need manual adjustment to better match the fill.
  • Ensure all design components are aligned to the same center point in your software.

Your Setup Looks Good

  • Machine: Brother NV800e – a great, reliable model.
  • Hoop: 160x260mm – perfect size for a 100x210mm design.
  • Stabilizer: Super strong cut-away – a smart choice for T-shirts.
  • Software: Embird and PE Design Plus – excellent tools for editing and previewing.

Bonus: Embroidering on a 6" Pad

  • If you're referring to embroidering on a 6" embroidery hoop or pad (like a patch or framed piece):
  • Print a template or use a placement line to ensure proper positioning.
  • Mark center and boundaries clearly.
  • Use spray adhesive or sticky stabilizer to hold the fabric in place while hooping.

Let me know if you'd like help checking your .pes or .emd file layout — I can walk you through adjustments too!

You're absolutely on the right track. Larger logos just need a few more tweaks, but you're almost there.
