Can embroidery machines be used to emroid on entire surfaces? rather than logos

Hello I am wondering if anyone can advise if embroidery machines can be used to embroid on entire surfaces? I am trying to create a popular West African cap (that is hand made) using the machine.
The youtube video shows the process of making the cap by hand. I want to explore whether this can be created using embroidery machines.
