Rita Davis 2
I have a Husqvarna Topaz 20 machine for about 3 years. It's been embroidering great until I installed 2020 from 2018. I can open the ".hus" files for the embroidery machine and am able to manipulate the designs as well. I save it to a thumb drive (I've tried a dozen of them). I also have Janome files on a few of the thumb drives and it reads them just fine. (On my Janome) The problem is when I take it to the machine. It show me the folders that I've created, but when I open the folder, there's nothing in it - even though there might be 6 designs there that I just saved to it. My Questions are 1. Does this have anything to do with the new upgrade? 2. Is there such a thing as newer USB's that would keep it from recognizing the files?? 3. Could it be possible that I can downgrade back to the 2018 when it did work? I've been pulling out my hair. I've tried everything and it reads my older files but not my new ones. Does anyone have a solution, ideas, opinions, etc to help me out??? Thanks Rita. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forum.embroideres.com/forums/topic/5466-2020-embird-wont-open-my-new-designs/
diver361 6,482
I would divide your question into several parts. I have never encountered this problem. I have been using Embird for more than 10 years. Current version 2021 (January 2021). Check which button you have pressed. All files are displayed only if the * button is selected. Alternatively, only the formats that you have selected are shown. Answers on questions. 1. No, I have never experienced any problems after an upgrade. 2. If only the USB device is broken and needs to be replaced. See if the files are visible in the explorer (Windows) 3. Of course the old version is available on the site. But this is not the best choice. You will lose many new opportunities. For example, new file formats will not be read. diver361 6,482
Hi there, I can totally understand your frustration — when things were working fine before and suddenly stop after an update, it's maddening. Here are a few thoughts and steps you might try: 1. Check the File Format Compatibility Even though you're saving as .hus, the newer version of the software (2020) might be saving them in a variant your Topaz 20 can’t read properly. Try using the "Save As" function and select an older .hus format, if available. Better yet, try saving as VP3, which is the preferred format for Husqvarna Viking machines like the Topaz 20. 2. File Display Settings on the Machine If folders appear but files don’t, it may be a format or naming issue. Keep file names to 8 characters or fewer. Avoid using spaces or special characters – stick to letters and numbers only. 3. USB Drive Issues Yes, newer USB drives can cause compatibility issues with embroidery machines. Use a USB 2.0 drive, preferably 4GB or smaller, and format it to FAT32. Always format using Windows – not Mac or third-party tools – and avoid storing Janome or mixed format files on the same drive. 4. Software Version Downgrade You can downgrade to the 2018 version, but it's best to first try exporting in an older format. If using Embird, mySewnet, or similar software, look for a version setting when saving the file. 5. One More Tip If you still have the 2018 version installed somewhere, try opening the newly saved files with it. If they don’t open or show errors, the problem likely lies in the encoding of the files. Let us know how it goes! Hopefully one of these tips gets your Topaz reading files again.
