AlexAbramov
I have used the embroidery features and am having a lot of fun. I would like to add fonts and am very confused as to what I need or how to do it. I do not have a Janome dealer close by. Can I simply download fonts onto a CF card or do I need some kind of embroidery software on my laptop? How basic (and inexpensive) can I go to start with? I've read alot on the forums and I have not seen this question. The former owner is not available for questions, either. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
The machine will only see .jef format "designs" In this case, each letter in a font is considered a design so you'd need to load 52 separate designs (upper and lower case) of you found a font that you liked. Quote Link to comment
sherry
If you want to create new fonts, then you will need a digitizer. Then you can do almost anything. To get an idea of what the software does, go to YouTube and search for Sunset Stitches. Trevor does great tutorials that will give you some idea. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
The machine itself has 3 built in fonts in the embroidery mode that you can just type and then put in the edit screen. To do anything elaborate you'd need at least Digitizer Jr (about $400+) There are loads of free programs that you can see and change formats (in case you had a design that wasn't .jef) Wilcom makes one. Good luck Quote Link to comment
AlexAbramov
I have used the monograms available on the machine, and understand the process. Right now I do not want to design any myself, but take advantage of some free designs online. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
you don't need digitising software, but an embroidery editor would be handy. You can download free design viewers, here's a few, starting with a free Editor Quote Link to comment
AlexAbramov
What I want to know is... If I find an alphabet online in a .jef format, can I download it and use any paint program to work with it? I understand that each letter would qualify as an individual design. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
free program my editor You have to register after which an e mail link to the program is sent to you. Barudan's Tes viewer this is a design viewer only, not an editor, so though you can view your designs, you can't edit them. Quote Link to comment
AlexAbramov
Can I just put the alphabet on the CF card and pick each letter as a design? Do I have to have a digitizer just to download a couple of fonts? Do I have to have the card writer if my computer takes a CF card? As you can tell, I am totally ignorant about anything that isn't in the basic manual. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
You can Google embroidery viewers, you'll find more, the reason I haven't included them is they wont let you insert designs (letters) arrange them as you want, then save as a single design to copy to your CF card. sherry
There are quite a few Embroidery editors for sale online, they are all much the same, though the user interface differs between them. Here's some links to editors, Sew what pro editing and lettering software http://www.sandscomputing.com/id66.html http://www.embird.net/sw/embird/features.htm Quote Link to comment
AlexAbramov
Thank you,!! You made it make more sense!! I have searched the internet for information. I really just want a fancier script than the machine offers and a collegiate font for school items. And maybe in the future, real designs. Quote Link to comment
sherry
It seems you like to do lettering - if you are serious about this then you might like to look at a digitizing program such as Digitizer MBX. It is not cheap, but well worth the cost. Quote Link to comment
stitchlady
If you don't want to spend quite that much there is Digitizer Jr. I don't know how many digitized fonts are in it but I expect a few more than what you have. Since I don't own Digitizer Jr., I can't tell you what it has, but it is upgradeable to the full version when you might like to do that. Quote Link to comment
