lindarnold
Can I embroider a snowflake name on some thicker stabilizer? I've seen ornaments that are embroidered and it looks that they're on a thicker stabilizer and cut out. Sorry if it seems vague! Quote Link to comment
denpopov
How would you think on using them after embroidery, lindarnold? You may like to use netting instead of the stabilizer. Quote Link to comment
nessa12
If you wish to use them for decorating Christmas tree, I think you must embroider them on felt. It works great, does not frey or some thing like that. Quote Link to comment
diver361
This is talk about FSL embroidery? Quote Link to comment
candace
You must have seen names like free standing lace. My all snowflakes are FSL and are done on WSS stabiliser. But If i make any ornament which is not FSL I make use of netting on the tearaway stabilser, and use solvy onver the top of netting before doing embroidery. I dont have problems with fraying or the disintegration of design. Quote Link to comment
rosemary
Read notes which come with design they tell you the right stabilser to make use of and that you need netting or organza. We are all new and trying to learn with each others help and each others experience in this forum. Quote Link to comment
denpopov
As nessa says some of the best ornaments are usually done on felt. I am thinking to one this christmass which would be a Santa Claus embroidered on a glitter felt, and then I will carefully cut around the design. I will do some experiment. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
While using felt do you make use of the water soluable stuff over the top? The stabilizer that I used was some what thick just like felt but not "flexible" like felt. I am not sure if this is the water soluable stuff over the top is used for? Incase I use netting can you make use of something such as tulle? and afetr that use the water soluable stabilizer along with it? Over the top or underneath? I am for sure learning alot here!! lindarnold
Initially I wanted to use something like netting but was not sure that the design would hold the snowflake properly. Quote Link to comment
candace
I make use of a craft felt, its not thick as well as I on the top of the felt i use solvy before doing embroidery. Solvy is a plastic like film which is also water soluble and very easy to just pick away from design. Quote Link to comment
candace
Additionally I use a fibrous water soluble below the felt in order to stabilize it. Actually the secret is just to stabilize properly, so you do not need to get felt, fabric stretching or even the stitches sinking in. Quote Link to comment
nessa12
I never ever use WSS on the felt. Only stick it on the Neshen, which is a sticky stabiliser. Quote Link to comment
nessa12
If you are using Solvy or anything of that sort then you do not need to starch them since the WSS itself has starch in it. Which means if you do not wash it out thoroughly it will be stiffened. Only rinse a bit to remove the film and this much must be enough. Quote Link to comment
lindarnold
Will try felt with WAS topper now! Thank you everyone! Quote Link to comment
